Jute & Eco Formats We Manufacture

Twelve Formats in Natural & Recycled Materials.

Jute is the starting point, not the whole category. If your programme needs washability, print detail or a certified fibre, one of the other five materials below will serve you better — and we would rather say so than sell you jute for a job it cannot do.

Jute Shopping & Tote Bags

Classic hessian totes with cotton webbing or jute rope handles.

Laminated Jute Bags

Inner film for water resistance and much finer print detail.

Juco & Jute-Cotton Blend

Softer hand and smoother surface than pure jute, still natural fibre.

Cotton Canvas Totes

6–12 oz canvas in natural or dyed shades for retail carry.

Organic & Recycled Cotton

Certified-sourceable organic and post-consumer recycled cotton.

rPET Recycled Polyester

Woven from recycled bottle flake — durable, washable, low cost.

Drawstring & Pouch Bags

Cotton and jute drawstrings for packaging, favours and inserts.

Wine & Bottle Gift Bags

Single and multi-bottle jute carriers with dividers.

Jute Conference Bags

Delegate bags in jute for sustainability-positioned events.

Jute Hampers & Gift Boxes

Baskets, boxes and sleeves for festive and CSR hamper programmes.

Jute Lunch & Insulated Bags

Natural-fibre outer over a food-grade insulated liner.

Jute Slings & Crossbody

Everyday jute and canvas slings for eco-led ranges.

Know What You're Actually Buying

Six “Eco” Materials, Honestly Described.

This is the category with the most loose language in it. Two of the six materials below are routinely sold with claims they cannot support, and the buyer carries that risk, not the supplier. Here is what each one actually is.

Jute / Hessian

Natural, unlaminated

Plant fibre, biodegradable, strong in tension. Coarse weave limits fine print detail and it marks if it gets wet. The most credible “eco” material we offer, precisely because nothing has been added to it.

Choose when the claim matters most

Laminated Jute

Read this carefully

An inner plastic film gives water resistance and much sharper printing. It also means the bag is no longer purely a natural fibre product, so “100 % biodegradable” is not a claim you can safely print on it. Excellent bag — just describe it accurately.

Great product, careful wording

Juco

Jute + cotton blend

Softer, smoother and finer than pure jute while staying natural fibre. Takes print better and feels more premium in the hand — the usual answer when jute looks too rough for a retail brand.

Best natural-fibre compromise

Cotton Canvas

6–12 oz

Washable, dyeable to any shade and prints cleanly. Heavier ounce means a sturdier bag. Organic and recycled cotton can be sourced with certification where your buyer requires documentation.

Best for print and repeat use

rPET

Recycled polyester

Woven from recycled bottle flake. Durable, washable, water-resistant and cheap — genuinely diverts waste, but it is still a plastic textile and sheds microfibres. Recycled, not biodegradable.

Best durability per rupee

Non-Woven “Eco” Bags

Not what it says

Widely sold as eco-friendly. Non-woven bags are polypropylene — plastic — and virgin PP at that. Reusable, yes; eco-friendly, no. We can make them, and we will not print an environmental claim on one.

Cheapest, least defensible

Tell us the claim before you tell us the material. Buyers and regulators are scrutinising environmental wording far more closely than they were even two years ago, and an unsupportable line printed on ten thousand bags is an expensive mistake to reprint. Send us the exact words you plan to use — biodegradable, compostable, recycled, plastic-free, reusable — and we will spec a material that genuinely supports them, or tell you which word to change. Where your buyer needs documentation, certified organic or recycled fibre can be sourced on request; confirm at enquiry so it is bought correctly from the start rather than substituted later.

Technical Specification

What You Can Specify.

Jute and cotton are commodity fabrics quoted by weight, which makes this the easiest category to under-specify and the easiest for a cheap supplier to cut corners in. This is the full range we build to.

MaterialsJute / hessian, laminated jute, juco, cotton canvas, organic cotton, recycled cotton, rPET, hemp. Non-woven PP available but not sold as eco.
Fabric weightJute quoted in GSM, cotton canvas in ounces (typically 6–12 oz). Heavier means sturdier and dearer — specify by weight, not by “good quality”.
LaminationUnlaminated for maximum natural-fibre credibility, or inner film lamination for water resistance and finer print. The choice affects what you can claim, so it is a marketing decision as much as a technical one.
ConstructionFlat, side-gusset or box-bottom. Turned-and-stitched top hem, bound seams, and a reinforced base panel on load-bearing shopping bags.
HandlesSelf-fabric, cotton webbing, jute rope, braided cord, cane or wooden handles, PU straps, or long-shoulder webbing on tote formats.
Load capacityTell us the intended load in kilograms. Handle anchoring and base reinforcement are specified to it — handle pull-out is the usual failure on cheap jute shopping bags.
LiningUnlined, cotton lining, laminated liner, or a food-grade insulated liner on lunch and hamper formats.
ClosureOpen top, zip, magnetic snap, button-and-loop, drawstring or fold-over flap.
PrintingScreen print suits jute's weave; laminated jute and cotton take much finer detail and multi-colour work. Sublimation does not work on natural fibre — if you need photographic print, rPET is the material.
DyeingNatural undyed, piece-dyed jute, or Pantone-referenced cotton. Natural fibre takes dye with slight variation, which is inherent rather than a defect.
CertificationOrganic and recycled fibre can be sourced with certification where your buyer requires documentation. Raise it at enquiry so the right fabric is bought from the start.
PackingFlat-packed in bundles or compressed bales — jute bags fold extremely well, which keeps freight volume low on large orders.
Commercial Terms

Claims, Fabric Weight & Freight

Send Us the Claim First

Before the material, tell us the exact wording you intend to print. We will spec a fabric that supports it, or tell you which word to change — which is far cheaper than reprinting a run or withdrawing a claim after it ships.

Quoted by Fabric Weight

Jute in GSM, cotton in ounces. Two bags of the same size can differ substantially in cost and durability because of weight alone, so ask every supplier to state it and compare on the same basis.

Cheap to Freight, Heavier to Weigh

Jute and cotton fold flat, so volumetric freight is low. But natural fibre is heavier than synthetic, so on weight-charged consignments the maths flips. We will tell you which basis applies to your route.

Fabric Booking & Lead Time

Jute fabric availability and pricing move with crop and mill supply, so early booking protects your cost on a large or repeating programme. Confirmed in writing at sample approval.

Ten Lines That Get You a Firm Price

The second line is the one most enquiries leave out and the one that most often changes our recommendation. If you are printing a sustainability claim, the claim decides the material — not the other way round.

Why Buyers Stay

A Supplier Who Will Tell You What Not to Print.

Sustainability purchasing gets audited internally and questioned publicly. The value of a supplier here is partly the bag and partly being told the truth about it.

We Check the Claim, Not Just the Order

Send the wording and we will tell you whether the material supports it. Most suppliers will print whatever you send and leave the risk with you.

We Will Not Greenwash a Non-Woven Bag

Non-woven is polypropylene. We make them when asked, and we decline to print an environmental claim on one. That costs us the occasional order and keeps you out of an argument.

Weight Stated on Every Quotation

GSM for jute, ounces for cotton — so you can compare our quote against a cheaper one and see exactly where the difference is.

Handles Anchored for Real Loads

Handle pull-out is the standard failure on cheap jute shopping bags. Tell us the load in kilograms and we reinforce the anchoring and base to it.

Reorder Consistency

Approved samples and fabric references retained. Natural fibre varies between lots, so holding the reference is the only way a repeat run looks like the first.

One Point of Contact

The same person handles your swatches, quote, sample, production and dispatch — no handovers mid-order.

We were about to print “100 % biodegradable” on laminated jute. They flagged it, explained why, and we changed the line before the run. That saved us a problem we did not know we had.

Our previous jute delegate bags tore at the handles on day one of the conference. They asked what load we expected and reinforced the anchoring accordingly — no failures across 3,000 bags.

Our European buyer needed certified recycled cotton with documentation. It was sourced correctly from the start instead of being substituted and argued about at inspection.

FAQ

Eco Sourcing Questions

Unlaminated jute is a plant fibre and biodegrades. Laminated jute has an inner plastic film, so the finished bag is no longer a purely natural product — which means “100 % biodegradable” is not a claim you can safely print on it. If biodegradability is central to your messaging, specify unlaminated and accept that the bag is less water-resistant and takes coarser print.

No. Non-woven bags are polypropylene — plastic, and usually virgin plastic. They are reusable, which is genuinely better than single-use, but reusable and eco-friendly are different claims. We manufacture them when asked and we will not print an environmental claim on one.

Jute is quoted in GSM and cotton canvas in ounces, typically 6 to 12 oz. Heavier is sturdier and dearer. Two bags of identical size can differ substantially in price and life because of weight alone, so ask every supplier to state it — a quote without a weight is not comparable to one with it.

Not well. Jute’s coarse weave breaks up fine detail, so screen print in one or two colours suits it best. Laminated jute and cotton canvas take much finer multi-colour work. If you need photographic reproduction, rPET is the material — it accepts sublimation, which natural fibres do not.

Certified organic and recycled fibre can be sourced where your buyer requires documentation. Raise it at enquiry so the correct fabric is purchased from the start — certification cannot be applied retrospectively to material already bought, and substituting later is how export consignments get rejected.

It depends almost entirely on handle anchoring and base reinforcement, not the fabric. Handle pull-out is the standard failure on cheap jute shopping bags. Tell us the load in kilograms and we specify the anchoring, base panel and stitching to it.

If the bag is a marketing surface that must look sharp, laminated jute or cotton canvas. If the environmental claim is the point, unlaminated jute or juco. If it needs to survive washing and repeated use at low cost, rPET. Tell us which of those three matters most and the choice becomes straightforward.

There is no fixed MOQ. Jute and cotton are woven fabrics bought by the roll, so very small runs cannot access fabric pricing and the per-unit cost rises. Ask for two or three quantity bands to see where it breaks.
